Press Release: Tobacco: Supporting the creation of new activities for tobacco producers withdrawing from production

The European Commission adopted a Regulation on 6 December 2002 providing funding, under the Community Tobacco Fund, for measures to encourage tobacco producers to switch to other crops or activities and for studies into the options for switching production. These measures are to be funded in collaboration with the quota buy-back programme. The Regulation also broadens the scope of existing measures designed to inform the public about the dangers of smoking.
