Press Release: The Netherlands: Helicopters for Darfur

The Netherlands will ensure that three helicopters are available as soon as possible to transport observers and aid supplies in Darfur. The helicopters will fly under the auspices of the African Union. This is in response to a request made by the African Union to development cooperation minister Agnes van Ardenne in Addis Ababa on Tuesday. So far the European Union has made eur 62.6 million available for Darfur. Including the funding of equipment and transport costs for three helicopters for a period of three months, the Netherlands' contribution for Darfur now totals eur 27.5 million
