The Netherlands is sending two observers to Sudan to join the observer mission set up by the African Union a few weeks ago. This was announced by the Minister for Development Cooperation, Agnes van Ardenne, during the weekly Question Time in the House of Representatives. The Netherlands is also providing eur 3 million in additional resources, bringing the total Dutch contribution to humanitarian aid in the Sudan to eur 10 million. A scorched earth policy is being pursued in Darfur. More than a million people have been driven from their homes and are dependent on food aid. The number of people affected by malnutrition and disease will rise even further. The Dutch government will sustain its efforts to curb violence and safeguard access for relief workers |
