Press Release: The Commission creates a European film prize known as the MEDIA prize

The MEDIA prize will be awarded once a year to the producer of a first film that has been granted aid under the Community MEDIA programme and which, during the previous year, has been distributed in the largest number of European countries. Ms Reding, Member of the Commission with responsibility for Culture and the Audiovisual Media, will present the first European Union MEDIA Prize during the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival at the end of Producers Fortnight on 19 May 2000.
