On 12 March 2001 the European Commission approved a major development programme in Greece for 2000-2006, the Operational Programme 'Competitiveness'. This programme involves Community support for all the Greek regions within the Objective 1 framework (regions lagging behind in their development). The Community assistance amounts to €1.97 billion, approximately 9% of the total Community Support Framework (CSF) for Greece and is expected to mobilise a total investment of more than €6 billion, including public and private funding. This operational programme (OP) falls within the second priority of the CSF 'Enhancing competitiveness for sustainable development' and covers sectors such as industry and manufacturing, small-medium enterprises, research and technology, tourism and energy. |
