Press Release: Statement on European Commission green paper on applicable law and jurisdiction in divorce matters

The European Commission, on 14 March 2005, published a Green Paper on applicable law and jurisdiction in divorce matters. The purpose of the Green Paper was to launch a wide-ranging consultation with interested parties on possible measures to be taken at Community level to create a procedure which would operate throughout the EU on the question of applicable law and jurisdiction in divorce matters.

The Irish Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, on 28 April 2005, published a statement in the context of the Green Paper and the general application of European Union civil law matters, in particular family law, in Ireland. Deadline for comments on the Green Paper: 30 September 2005.
