Press Release: State aid: Commission authorises transfer of nuclear assets from British Nuclear Fuels to Nuclear Decommissioning Authority subject to conditions

The European Commission on 4 April 2006 closed its formal investigation procedure under EC Treaty state aid rules (article 88(2)) concerning the establishment of the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and the transfer to this authority of certain assets and liabilities belonging to British Nuclear Fuels Ltd (BNFL). The Commission had come to the conclusion that BNFL complied with the polluter-pays principle and had therefore received no state aid.
