A review into the quality of training for junior doctors, in the light of the implementation of the European Working Time Directive, will consider the concerns raised by some professionals that the introduction of a 48-hour working week may have a detrimental effect on junior doctors' training. The review was announced by the UK Health Secretary, Alan Johnson, on 21 May 2009. The European Working Time Directive will be fully applied to doctors in training for the first time from 1 August 2009. |
