Press Release: President Prodi and Prime Minister Verhofstadt host second debate on ‘Brussels, ‘capital’ of Europe’

The President of the European Commission and the Prime Minister of Belgium hosted the second and final brainstorming session on the role of Brussels in the life of the European Union on 19 September 2001. The first session in May 2001 concluded that, unlike the capital of a nation state, Brussels' function is not to reflect a single identity, but Europe's diversity. The second session considered what this could mean for the city itself.
