Press Release: President Barroso meets Afghan President Hamid Karzai – and announces details of Afghan reconstruction programmes for 2005/2006

Preview of a meeting between European Commission President, José Manuel Barroso, and Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, in Brussels on 12 May 2005. They were planning to review the reconstruction process and the ongoing political transition in Afghanistan. They also intended to discuss counter-narcotics efforts, priorities for future cooperation between the EU and Afghanistan and forthcoming elections. Presidents Barroso and Karzai were to announce details of the Commission's programme for reconstruction assistance for 2005 and 2006.
