The UK Environment Minister, Alun Michael, and the Science and Innovation Minister, Lord Sainsbury, met with key representatives from industry and trade unions, as well as environmental and animal welfare organisations on 6 January 2004, to discuss how new EU proposals for the European chemicals industry could best protect human health and the environment whilst also maintaining industrial competitiveness. The round-table discussion was held in advance of the publication of the Government's consultation paper on the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) later in the year. |
