Press Release: Minister Smith presses for advance payment of Single Payment

The Irish Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith, met the EU Agriculture Commissioner, Mariann Fischer Boel, on 22 September 2008 and pressed the case for an advance payment of the 2008 Single Payment. His approach to the Agriculture Commissioner to advance 50 per cent of the payment was prompted by the very wet summer of 2008, which had seriously affected farming in Ireland.
