The European Commission on 1 July 2005 cleared under the EU Merger Regulation a proposed joint venture which combined the polystyrene and expandable polystyrene interests of the British group BP and the Canadian company Nova Chemicals. The Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the EEA or any substantial part of it.
