On 29 April 2016, the European Commission cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of Neptune Oriental Lines ("NOL") of Singapore by rival CMA CGM, a French shipping company with worldwide activities. The clearance was conditional upon NOL leaving the G6 liner shipping alliance.
