The European Commission’s aid to Mediterranean partners was to exceed €850 million in 2005. Most aid was to be delivered through the MEDA programme. With the aid package the EU wanted to demonstrate its continued commitment to the region’s development. This was in addition to around €2 billion annually in loans. |
