Press Release: Loyola de Palacio calls for European Commission proposals on freight transport in Europe to be put into action.

Following the serious road accident in the Gotthard tunnel in Switzerland, Loyola de Palacio, Vice President of the European Commission in charge of energy and transport called upon the European Union on 29 October 2001 to take measures in co-operation with the Swiss in the area of freight transport and road safety. The Commissioner added that the European Commission had already presented proposals in these areas and she called for action to be taken as quickly as possible.
