The Commission has decided to support 753 transnational projects involving some 14,500 partners under the Leonardo da Vinci programme, the Community action programme for vocational training, in the 1999 exercise. The total co-financing for these amounts to €94.8m (€81.1m for the 18 countries that have participated since the beginning of the programme and €13.7m for the 11 associated countries).

The selected projects were chosen, following an evaluation process, from a total of 2170 proposals submitted. They reflect the programme's five priorities: the acquisition of new skills, bringing together educational and vocational training establishments, the fight against exclusion, the promotion of investment in human resources and broadening access to knowledge using the tools of the information society in the context of lifelong training. The desire to reintegrate people or consolidate their position in work is reflected in a deeper analysis of the process of recognising and validating skills acquired by workers in the course of their professional activity.
