Press Release: Launching of negotiations between Switzerland and the EU for an agreement on electricity

The first negotiation meeting between Switzerland and the EU on electricity was held in Brussels on 8 November 2007. Switzerland, which occupies a central position in the European electricity supply network, is an essential partner for the EU in the proper functioning of the internal market in electricity. The agreement being negotiated should, in particular, cover the common principles and rules for the adoption of an integrated market in electricity between the EU and Switzerland which guarantees security of supply for the parties and takes full account of the environmental impact of electricity production.
