Press Release: Judgment of the Court of Justice in Case C-42/07. Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional (CA/LPFP) and Bwin International Limited v Departamento de Jogos da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa

The prohibition which Portuguese legislation imposes on operators such as Bwin of offering games of chance via the internet may be regarded as compatible with the freedom to provide services. In the light of the specific features associated with the offering of games of chance via the internet, such legislation may be justified by the objective of combating fraud and crime.
