Press Release: Joe Borg pays a visit to China

European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Joe Borg, leaves on 6 November 2007 for a six-day tour of China. During his visit, Commissioner Borg will meet with several key Chinese Ministers to discuss cooperation between the European Union and China on maritime matters both bilaterally and in international bodies such as the United Nations, FAO, Regional Fisheries Management Organisations and WTO. Commissioner Borg will present the EU's new initiatives in the marine and maritime fields ranging from the development of an integrated Maritime Policy for the Union to measures to eliminate illegal fishing and to protect vulnerable deep sea ecosystems from destructive fishing practices. As well as meeting Chinese ministers in Beijing, Commissioner Borg will also deliver speeches and answer questions at the Ocean University of China in Qingdao and Shanghai Fishery University.
