The UK Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, welcomed the European Union (Accessions) Act 2003, when it received Royal Assent on 13 November 2003. The new Act implements in UK law the requirements of the EU Accession Treaty, signed in Athens on 16 April 2003, and provides a power to open up the UK labour market to workers who are citizens of the new Member States in central and eastern Europe. |
