Press Release: Ireland secures research and innovation portfolio in European Commission

European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, unveiled the new team of European Commissioners on 27 November 2009. The new European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science will be Ireland's nominee, Maire Geoghegan Quinn. The new Commission as a body will be subject to a vote of consent by the European Parliament, which is expected to be held in late January. On the basis of this consent, the new Commission will be appointed by the European Council.
