In order to allay fears generated by those campaigning for a 'no' in the referendum on the Treaty of Nice, due to take place in the Autumn of 2002, the Irish Minister of State for European Affairs, Dick Roche, assured the Irish people that there was no need to fear enlargement and its consequences in terms of the free movement of workers. |
