The European Commission took action to ensure that six Member States implement EU laws on the Internal Market. The Commission will refer Latvia to the European Court of Justice over its failure to implement in its national law a Directive on company law. Hungary will also be referred to the Court over its failure to implement one of the Capital Requirements Directives. Finally, the Commission will send formal requests to the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Poland and Portugal concerning their non-implementation of a Directive on reinsurance. These formal requests take the form of 'reasoned opinions', the second stage of the infringement procedure laid down in Article 226 of the EC Treaty. If there is no satisfactory reply within two months, the Commission may refer the matter to the European Court of Justice. |
