Press Release: Internal Electricity Market: European Commission decides to take Greece to the Court of Justice

The European Commission decided to initiate a Court case against Greece for incorrect application of key requirements of the Directive on common rules for the internal market in electricity, 16 December 2004. The Greek Public Power Cooperation (PPC) does not publish separate ('unbundled') accounts for lignite mining and generation of electricity. The publication of separate accounts for each activity of an electricity undertaking is a key element of effective unbundling. The purpose is to avoid cross-subsidisation that would result in distortion of competition.
