Press Release: Initial results of Eurobarometer survey No 54 (autumn 2000)

Eurobarometer survey No 54, which was conducted in November and December 2000, among more than 16 000 citizens of the European Union, showed no overall change in the main key indicators and provided confirmation that Europeans are optimistic about the trend in employment. The majority of people take a favourable view of membership of the European Union; 50%of citizens consider it to be a good thing, whereas 14%take the opposite view. There was also a slight improvement in the Commission's image in the second half of the year.
