The New European Investment Programme for Yorkshire and Humber was launched by the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Danuta Hübner, and John Healey, UK Floods Minister, on 15 February 2008. This programme has £394m (€583m) from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to invest in the region by 2013. With reference to the severe flooding in the North of England during the summer of 2007 and the UK's application for financial assistance to the European Union Solidarity Fund, the Commissioner also stated that The European Commission was determined to mobilise funds to help the regions affected to recover from this catastrophe. |
