Issues to make the life of small enterprises easier and to boost economic activity of SMEs were discussed at a Conference on the European Charter for Small Enterprises held by the Commission together with the Luxembourg Presidency in Luxembourg on 15-16 June 2005. On the agenda were education for entrepreneurship, better regulation, especially bankruptcy law and impact assessment, and skills shortages, notably measures to overcome the lack of skilled technicians and engineers. The Charter process benchmarks progress by Member States in improving the environment for SMEs and facilitates the exchange of good practices. |
