Press Release: Gibraltar’s enfranchisement for European Parliament elections announced

On 28 November 2001, the UK Foreign Office Minister, Peter Hain, said that he was 'delighted to announce the Government's intention that, for the first time ever, the Gibraltar electorate should be able to vote in European Parliamentary elections' .He went on to say that the UK Government fully supported Gibraltar's aspiration and right to be represented in the European Parliament and was committed to achieving this in time for the next elections in 2004.
