Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's North African tour was aimed at supporting stabilization efforts and at helping to ensure that political and economic reforms initiated in the region become irreversible. The Barcelona Process is a program of cooperation between the EU, on the one hand, and Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Territories, Syria, Tunisia, and Turkey, on the other.
