Press Release: Germany: An army based on democratic principles

Chancellor Gerhard Schröder praised the democratic tradition of Germany's postwar armed forces. Speaking on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the 'Bundeswehr' he thanked the men and women in uniform for their service on difficult missions both at home and abroad, adding that the German armed forces today are a respected partner for the protection of peace, freedom, and human rights
