The European Commission set out the basis for a European Energy Policy in a Green Paper, adopted on 8 March 2006. The Green Paper, entitled 'A European Strategy for Sustainable, Competitive and Secure Energy', invited comments on six specific priority areas and contained over 20 concrete suggestions for possible new action. The six priority areas cover: 1. completion of the internal energy market; 2. solidarity among Member States; 3. a sustainable, efficient and diverse energy mix; 4. regular Strategic EU Energy Review; 5. the challenges of global warming; 6. a common external energy policy.
