Press Release: Foreign Secretary introduces European Union bill

The UK Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, introduced the European Union Bill in the UK House of Commons on 24 May 2005. This Bill gives effect to the EU Constitutional Treaty in UK law (through amendment to the 1972 European Communities Act) and ensures that those changes to the Act can only come into force after approval in a referendum.
