Franz Fischler, EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, expressed his dismay on 15 May 2000 over reports that the US intends to tighten the quota on wheat gluten from the EU for the year starting 1 June 2000. With the EU already challenging the quota itself in the WTO, the imminent move by the US to further restrict imports is 'most inopportune', according to the Commissioner. |
