Press Release: Europe’s films more successful than ever at Cannes Film Festival 2006

Preview of the Cannes International Film Festival 2006, which was to open on 17 May. Seventeen European films, which had all received funding under the EU’s MEDIA programme, made it into the final selection. The future of the MEDIA programme, the development of business models for Film Online services and the competitiveness of European films abroad were to be on the agenda of the annual meeting on EU audiovisual politics, bringing together the EU’s Ministers for Culture and Audiovisual and the European Commissioner, Viviane Reding, in Cannes on 23 May 2006.
