Press Release: European Commission responds to press allegations on handling of secure communications

On 5.3.01, following media reports on remarks made on 6 February 2001 by Mr. D. Perkins of the European Commission's Cipher Office and his subsequent clarifications, which were made available by the Commission to the Members of the European Parliament Temporary Echelon Committee, the European Commission issued a press release in order to correct some misconceptions which appeared in the media.
