Press Release: EU must maintain its aid to Libya, say MEPs

The European Parliament's plenary session held a debate on 4 February 2016 with Dutch foreign minister Bert Koenders, representing the EU's High Representative for Foreign Policy Federica Mogherini, regarding the situation in Libya.

MEPs warned that economic disintegration and violence in Libya were worsening its fragility and enabling extremist organisations to flourish there. They added that spillovers from Libya’s conflicts are also destabilising the Sahel region.

In a resolution voted on the same day, the parliament urged the European Union and international community to be ready to support Libyans’ efforts to implement the Libyan Political Agreement.
