The Association Council between the European Union and Israel held its first meeting on Tuesday 13 June 2000. This first meeting of the Association Council follows shortly the entry into force of the Euro-Mediterranean Association Agreement between the EU and Israel on 1st June 2000. It marks a qualitative shift in relations between the European Union and Israel, by broadening and deepening their content both in political and economic terms.
