The European Commission and the Republic of Croatia initialled an agreement on the 8 November 2000 on trade in textile products in Brussels, providing for the elimination of the quantitative restrictions applied by the EU on Croatian textile and clothing exports from 1 January 2001. This agreement is an early and concrete materialisation of the Council decision in September 1999 on furthering the stabilisation process in the region through trade liberalisation. It is an important step in promoting closer trade and economic relations with Croatia, whose textiles and clothing exports to the EU represent a quarter of total exports of Croatia to the EU. |
