On 13 November, 2008, the EU and China (together with the United States and Canada) reached a landmark agreement on the treatment of financial information services in China. Financial information suppliers such as Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg and Dow Jones will in future benefit from a new regulatory framework that will help to ensure a level playing field for all operators in the Chinese market. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today in Geneva addressed the concerns that had led the European Commission to launch WTO consultations on this matter in March 2008. The changes are due to be put in place by 1 June 2009. |
