Press Release: Environment committee backs compromise on cleaner biofuels

The European Parliament's Environment committee backed on 14 April 2015 the deal struck between MEPs and EU member states following negotiations concerning advanced biofuels.

The agreement plans to cap the production of traditional biofuels and accelerate the shift to alternative sources, such as certain types of waste and residues and new sources such as seaweed. It aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions caused by the growing use of farm land for biofuel crops.

The EP plenary was scheduled to vote on the proposal on 27-30 April session in Strasbourg.
