Following concerted pressure from UK Fisheries Minister, Elliot Morley and green lobby groups, the problem of dolphins and porpoises being killed in fishing nets is to be made a priority by the European Commission. The European Commission's Green Paper on the future of fishing in EU waters states that EU fishing states must find answers to the problem of cetacean bycatch (dolphins and porpoises caught by accident in nets) from 2002. |
