Press Release: Company Taxation: Towards a common consolidated corporate tax base, the European Commission presents a progress report and outlines the next steps.

The European Commission on 5 April 2006 issued a Communication on the 'Progress to date and next steps towards a Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (CCCTB). This Communication gave a report on progress to date and an outline of the next steps to take, as well as drawing attention to those areas where further political support and direction was desirable without seeking commitments from Member States to the legislative proposal. The document reflected the progress made by the Commission led expert Working Group on the Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (CCCTB WG). The CCCTB would enable companies to follow the same rules for calculating the tax base for all their EU-wide activities, thereby removing many of the tax obstacles to companies operating across the Internal Market. The European Commission was planning to present its legislative proposal in 2008.
