With the EU economy entering an era of radical transformation, the 'EU economy: 2000 Review' has as its overriding theme the sustainability of economic growth in the medium term. On the basis of Commission's Autumn forecast published the previous week, the Review analyses in depth the prospects and policy challenges for the EU economy in general and the euro-zone in particular. Moreover, four key issues that require the timely attention of policy makers are being analysed: the sustainability of the recovery in the euro area; the impact of the 'new economy' on the European economy; the relationship between economic growth and environmental sustainability; and real convergence and catching-up by the less developed regions in the EU. |
