Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs participated in the inauguration ceremony on 13 July 2006 of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline at its arrival point in Ceyhan, Turkey. The pipeline will connect the South Caucasus and Central Asia to Turkey, and from there to the Mediterranean shore and the European markets. The pipeline is expected to deliver an additional volume of 50 million tons of oil per year to the world markets by 2008 (current capacity is about half of this). |
