Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development, arrives in Abidjan this evening for an official visit to Côte d'Ivoire, one year on from his first visit immediately after the end of the fighting. Commissioner Piebalgs will meet President Alassane Ouattara and the Prime Minister, Jeannot Kouadio-Ahoussou, to relaunch the political dialogue and jointly identify priority sectors for cooperation. As well as discussing the challenges facing Côte d'Ivoire, the Commissioner will raise a number of regional issues with President Ouattara, who is currently President of ECOWAS (the Economic Community of West African States). These will include the situation in Mali and the Sahel region. |
