The Commissioner for External Relations, Chris Patten, visited Afghanistan and Pakistan on 20-23 May 2002. The main objectives of the visit to Afghanistan was to make an assessment of the political transformation underway in that country, and review ongoing co-operation. Information learned during the visit will inform decisions on the next tranche of reconstruction and rehabilitation assistance, worth €70 m. In Pakistan, the Commissioner held high level bilateral meetings and signed the Financing Agreement of the €50 m Financial Services Sector Reform Programme. |
