During a three-day visit to China the European Commissioner for External Relations, Chris Patten, and the Chinese Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation participated in a signing ceremony for the EU-China Village Governance Project in Beijing on 22 May 2001. The aim of the project is to promote the development of village self-governance and democratisation in China. The EU will contribute €10.6 million towards the total project cost of €14.7 million. |
