Press Release: Commissioner Kyprianou visits SE Asia to discuss avian influenza and other issues

Preview of a visit of Markos Kyprianou, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia, during an official tour of South East Asia from 6-16 November 2005. Avian Influenza, which had been endemic in parts of the region since 2003, was to be high on the Commissioner’s agenda during his trip. Other issues which the Commissioner was planing to discuss during his 10-day trip included food safety and Sanitary and Phytosanitary issues (SPS), and certain public health challenges such as AIDS.
