Press Release: Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner to visit Lebanon, 16-17 February 2009

During her third visit to Lebanon as European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner will meet with Lebanese President, Michel Sleiman, Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, Prime Minister, Fouad Siniora, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Faouzi Salloukh, Minister of the Interior and Municipalities, Ziad Baroud, as well as other members of the Lebanese government. Issues like regional developments and the key challenges Lebanon is facing in the nearest future will be discussed. The Commissioner will put special emphasis on the further implementation of the Doha agreement in all its aspects, especially the national dialogue, the strengthening of the authority of the State and the next Parliamentary elections scheduled for June. The issue of using the full potential of the European Neighborhood Policy to take forward the reform agenda of the government will also be on the agenda.
